Mike Balkwill is a long time and very busy
organizer/trainer/group facilitator (you name it and he has
probably done it) who has worked mostly in Ontario but recently
has been involved in projects across Canada. Mike has also
taught community practice at York and McMaster universities.

In the 1970's and 80's Mike was the first person to do community
organization in housing cooperatives in English Canada and has
continued to bring innovation to the field of community
development in social housing. In 2001/2002 he designed and
facilitated with the Toronto Community Housing Corporation, the
largest participatory budgeting project in Canada.

At this point Mike is heavily involved in social action organizing
with environmental and social justice projects, including a recent
successful campaign to stop the development of an incinerator
for low-level radioactive waste in Brampton, Ontario.

Mike is the owner and Grand Pooh Bah of CommonAct Press.
